The Benefits of Strength Training for Women

Strength training is one of those things that comes with a lot of misconceptions. While most people picture big muscles, heavy weights, and a gym rat mentality this could not be further from the truth. This form of exercise not only helps you become stronger by building muscle but in turn, helps strengthen your bones, boosts your immune system, lowers your risk for diabetes and cardiovascular problems. Studies over the years have shown that strength training is very important for women in particular due to the increased risk of osteoporosis, heart attack, and stroke versus men. 

Overall Benefits

While the physical effects are undeniable it is also important to note that strength training and exercise, in general, are good for the mind too! Increased endorphin levels and lower cortisol levels lead to a happier and healthier you. Gaining muscle helps improve your balance which in turn reduces your risk of injury, falling, arthritis, back, and knee pain. Strength training helps to build lean muscle, lower body fat, and increase bone density.

Bone Health

As we get older hormonal changes lead to bone loss otherwise known as osteoporosis, which currently affects 1 in 4 women over the age of 65. New reports are showing that even younger generations are now getting diagnosed with osteoporosis at an earlier age which can be caused by a more sedentary lifestyle as we spend more time sitting behind a desk or at home. By engaging your large muscle groups through strength training and lifestyle changes in your diet, you can increase your bone density and fight off inflammation.

Our personal training packages are a great way to get started no matter what your age or fitness level is. Whether you are an athlete looking for one-on-one guidance or a first-timer looking to get started, we are here for you! We work with you to assess your needs based on your medical conditions, current or previous physical activity, and injuries to create a custom-tailored plan just for you. Our packages encompass so much more than just fitness and include nutrition counseling, assessments to track your progression plus you get access to the gym on non-training days.

We also offer virtual sessions for those who prefer to workout out from home during this time.

Change in Procedures During COVID-19

We understand that now more than ever, taking proper care of your body through physical exercise is the key to a healthy immune system. That is why we continue to strive to provide a sanitary and comfortable experience for all of our clients. We pride ourselves on following all CDC Guidelines to ensure the safety and health of our staff and members. Recently, we have added an air scrubber to our A/C unit which sanitizes the air as it circulates to kill off common bacteria and viruses. Our safety measures include body temperature checks at the door, rigorous sanitation measures throughout as well as hand sanitizing stations before entering and leaving the gym.
